High school cheer team help!!?

it depends on team! Most varsity teams in my area only require a standing BHS, but the better ones require roundoffBHS, fronts, walkovers, or even tucks.

Try searching for a competition video of your HS team and see what skills everyone has. ORRR email the coach NOW and ask what skills are required. This is probably your best bet because she will be familiar with your name come tryouts and know that you take it seriously.

I think you should just continue taking classes and progressing until tryouts. The more skills you can get, the better! People with come in with lots of tumbling experience are great assets to their team because most schools don't have the means to teach advanced tumbling. Anyway, that is awesome that you took the initiative to start preparing so early and your coach is going to be lucky to coach you!

Take as many classes as you can! If you could learn that back tuck or back layout or full you will definitely get a spot on the team. I think the back handspring will be enough, but prACTice like a champion! I know I wouldn't stop at the back handspring.

And I noticed you left out jumps in your question! Do you have good jumps? Toe touch, herkie, pike, hurdler, etc. Work on those! And get flexible! Start stretching! Splits! For jumps, the most important thing is strength in your hip flexors. Try investing in resistance bands from myosource, buy their cheerleading combo! I did and saw results within days! But if you don't want to buy those do these exercises everyday-----> http://www.livestrong.com/article/492641... good luck and be sickeningly peppy and sweet at tryouts!<3

Hi you are doing great right now just keep taking your classes and you will soon have your back handsprings stretch if you do not have your splits then stretch everyday and work on good height for jumps because they pay a lot of attention for that! Hope i helped thank you!

Keep taking your classes! You have experience at cheerleading so that will give you a boost. Just keep practicing on your tumbling and in no time you will be good!:)

Take your classes work hard. But dont forget about jumps those are important too. And flexibility. You probably have a shot, and always smile

I want to tryout for my high school cheer team next year, i figured since tryouts are in june, it is never to early to start. I used to cheer, so i have sharp and clean motions, i have a loud voice, and i am excellent at stunts. You need to be able to tumble. I can do a handstand, cartwheel, roundoff, and almost a back handspring (im taking a class). Im also thinking of taking a back walkover class, and a back tuck class. Do you think i should take more tumbling classes, or do you think its enough. I know that you have to have your backhandspring, but i dont know if it is enough to make the team! If you are a past or present or whatever cheerleader, please help!!! Thanks in advance!!
