Horseback riding is a lot of fun as well. However it is something that you can learn at any age. The oldest Olympian in the 2012 summer Olympics was a 70-year-old dressage rider!
I'm the type of person who wants it all. If you like more than one thing there is no reason to choose between them! There is a sport called Equestrian Vaulting. It is gymnastics and dance on horseback. Check out the website below to find a club near you.
I have done competitive gymnastics for 13 years and horseback riding for 2 months
Gymnastics is an intense and rigorous sport for those who get involved early, since you are older(in gymnastics years) your experience will be a bit different. Gymnastics is for those with patience and who can work hard, and you will have fun learning to control your body and gain muscle and get fit.
While horseback riding on the other hand I found to be tedious and you really need a passion for it to be able to not only be self aware but to take care of the horse as well. If you have a real furry passion for it, I think that you will get more success from horseback riding than from gymnastics, but if its not success you are looking for than "go with your gut" which one excites you more and gets you going!
:Weirdly enough I had to answer the same exact question just a year ago. I'm so glad I chose gymnastics!! Because guess what? You can do like me and do gymnastics but VOLUNTEER at horse farms. It's free and you get to do stuff like exercise the horse, groom, feed, and all that jazz. They teach you everything.
Plus gymnastics is so much fun. You get into crazy amount of shape, gain flexibility, cool new tricks, awesome coaches. Don't expect to meet people your age though :/ It's just so much fun, it never gets boring cause you're constantly learned new things.
I mean c'mon...who doesn't want to know how to do a back tuck???
Go with your gut
I am bored so I just want to see others opinions on this. I want to start taking riding lessons. There is this stable that shows from the hunters up to the Grand Prix level but its an hour away and my mom won't let me drive there until I'm 18, which makes me have to wait for 2 years. I have also always been interested in gymnastics ever since I was little and I would like to do it at least once before I get too old and my body can't move like that anymore. Should I take recreational gymnastics for 2 years or do riding at a smaller stable and then move up?
