Few questions about boxing training?

Toon Army,

5'11 and 135 Fat, Are you serious? What gives? if you were 5'1 and 135 I'd say you were pudgy but then again I trained a kid that was a even 5 foot and 147 and built like a brick shi* house. Any way, 19 isn't too old, get yourself to a sanctioned gym with good trainers and you will be fine.

Boxing is like anything else the more you prepare yourself the better you're going to be. I will tell you this and this you can take to the bank, BOXING is no joke. One can not play boxing, unlike baseball, football, tennis, hockey or tennis. You get hit in the head and there will be damage. This is a fact. EVERY Boxers leaves something in the ring after each and EVERY sparring session and after each and EVERY fight.

Boxing is the greatest sport ever as far as I'm concerned but know the consequences before you begin.

After about two or three months in the gym with the right trainer you and he/she should be able to gauge your progress, sometimes this happens sooner but two or three months is average. Three times a week is perfect for a beginner, you don't want to over do it. You'll be working muscles that you've never worked before so it's important not to injure yourself.

It's hard to evaluate one by not knowing anything about you other than "You're 19, 5'11 and fat" just make sure that you develop good balance, head movement and never forget that everything works off your jab. You sound like you got the heart and I hope you do. Good luck and I hope to read about you one day.

everybodys different, some can take longer and some can do it sooner, you're not too old to start, just be dedicated to it, have heart, my coach always told me, boxing is 60% heart and 40% fists. don't give up and don't get cocky. work hard eat right.. and btw, a good estimate to how long it would take to develop the skills to be a decent boxer is around a year, but it depends on whos teaching you

its not too late at all mate, in fact its a pretty good age. carl froch didn't turn pro until 25. even if you did have ambitions to go pro then 19 isn't too late at all. you could have 6 years in the amatuers before turning over.

just head in to your local gym and get training. they wont have you don't anything like sparring for a long time until you are ready. just go, hit the bags, learn the techniques and see if its for you.

i'd advise you start running a few times a week too. it will really boost your cardio and help get your body used to the strenuous training. getting in good shape is pretty much all down to diet though. you can train hard as hell but if you're still out every weekend drinking and eating take aways etc then your bodys not gonna look good.

my advice is just get boxing a few days a week. go for a run a few times a week too for about half an hour steady pace to begin with, and just make little adjustments to your diet like avoiding junk, and going easy on bread and sugar. you should notice a difference.

no its not too late, even to be a good pro but youd need to be training hard 6 days a week. it will take you 2-3 months if you eat clean and healthy and eat good amounts of protein to add on muscle or you will look extrememly skinny for 5'11.

I'm 19, is this too old to be a "good" boxer? I'm not going to be unrealistic and say I want to go pro... But what I do want is to be able to handle myself.

I'm 5'11 and 135 pounds. But my body is fat, if I train 3 times a week at my boxing gym, how long would it take me to get in good shape and be a good boxer?

Any additonal tips? Thanks guys. I've posted a few times already so I'm sorry if I'm clogging up this section.
