Feed large group of people cheap?

Since you already have a promise of meatballs and chicken alfredo, I would go with the Italian theme, make more meatballs (hamburger being cheaper than lunchmeat) Get some rolls that would allow the guests to make their own meatball sandwiches, provide grated cheese and plenty of napkins as this could be a bit messy. Make some pasta if you have enough sauce. Perhaps a simple garden salad for a starter. Depending on the budget of course. Good luck.

if you really think that many people are going to show up then you might want to make it a potluck. You make the main course and ask them to bring a side dish or something like that.

I am hosting a baby shower on a Sunday afternoon. The guest list got a little out of control, and 60+ people and their kids have been invited (I was planning for 20). Assuming about 45-50 show up, what's a cheap way to feed them? I had originally planned on ordering pizza, but for that many people it's too expensive. My second thought was chips and sandwiches since we don't have a way to keep trays warm (I can use a crockpot though). I don't mind making the sandwiches myself (the grocery stores charge about $40 for a tray that feeds 10-15 people), but at $8 a pound for the average lunch meat, that's still a good $80 or so plus bread. Someone has offered to make meatballs and chicken alfredo that will be kept warm in the crockpot, so the sandwiches would not be the only thing available. We will also have cake.
