Why only those 2 choices? Boxers are not good with children. They are too rough. Dobermans are a one man dog.
Try a German Shepard for a family with children. It is owner protective as well as territory.
They both need to be exersized very regularly so if you are up for the challenge then go for it, Boxers have a much more calmer temperment then a doberman, less maintenance aswell, I would say go for the boxer.
Dobermans are very very smart and if you want good home protection go for this lethal weapon on four legs! lol
