Martinez style is what kills him involves alot of movement ard it really wears you down. Thats why he took the fight with Murray and did not do another rematch with Chavez or fight somebody who can really give him problems all though Murrary did.
Now it seems like he has to take a full year off because now i think he hurt his hand and his knee. Just age catching up to him i guess. Too bad he did not get a chance to fight Mayweather in a couple years back Prolly would of gave him alot of problems.
To me...Sergio Martini was never all that and a bag of dorito's. All he did was KO an overrated church boy Paul Williams, and everybody thinks he can take on anyone. BS....even Trout claimed to do well vs Martini....If he fought mayweather, i think May is meaner then we all think.
when you pick up injuries as you get older it takes longer to heal and hands and knees are very important to boxers .without good knees you can't run ,

He was injured two fights in a row and at age 38 is taking the rest of the year off. This is not like Mayweather who takes a year off by choice but remains in tremendous shape, always working at his craft.
