It has definitely become a sport compared to what it was when I was a teenager.
Cheerleading is what takes place during time outs and halftime during the real sports nobody goes to a football Or basketball game to see cheerleading not a sport
Cheerleading is definitely a sport, just not necessarily a traditional one. There's national cheerleading competitions, and it's one of the most dangerous SPORTs around. For example, my sophomore year, our junior captain, Ally, almost broke her neck (as in, she fell out of a stunt halfway through a cheer, and our coach had to leave with her, in an ambulance, to go to the emergency room)! Meanwhile, in football, the most that ever happens (at least at my school) is an occasional concussion. At my school, you can get PE credits for doing a SPORT, and I got as much of a credit for cheerleading as the football and basketball players do for their sports. So, yes, I agree that cheerleading is most definitely a sport.
I'm not gonna lie I'm a guy and I think its a sport and should be pronounced as a sport cheerleaders at my school put in time and effort into what they do just like us on the track team and those on football team and baseball and softball teams and all the other teams
Cheerleading is a sport, and whoever thinks it isn't should have to cheer and do all the stunts jumps and cheers and they will see its hard work. You can get hurt doing cheer I have fallen many times out of an extention I amost broke my leg and I almost hurt my neck! SO IT IS A SPORT!
As a cheerleader I:
Run everyday
Stretch Everyday
Do splits that feel like they're sawing me in half
Jump in the air
Lift people over my head that weigh more than me, and look happy even when they fall on me
Make sure these people do not fall and get hurt, meaning that I must fall myself to block their fall
Dance till I'm out of breath
Yell
Smile even when it's killing me
Look Nice :D
I've seen girls break bones and have to be taken to the hospital for seizures during practice.
One girl fell doing a backhandspring and landed on her back, seriously injuring herself. Oh, did I mention it was the night before competition? We had to completely re-make our routine because she was our main girl.
the definition for a sport:
An activity involving physical exertion and skill
I would say that cheerleading is more physically exerting than football/ basketball.
Cheering is hard, and cheering is worth it <3
Technically, it's not a sport unless its competitive. To be a sport it has to be one person/team/squad against another. And to one of the comments above, you can't play track and field, but it's still a sport.
Definition: An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others.
It's a competitive physical activity, so yeah. Even most high school squads now compete with the other teams in their county, so it's competitive, and it's DEFINITELY hard.
Good luck!(:
cheerleading is a hobby not a sport.
you can't 'play' cheerleading, but you can do it. a sport is something you can play.
agree. it is a sport as it gets your heartrate up
I'm a cheerleader, and I was just wondering if other people think cheerleading is a sport or not.
Sport, that stuff can be intense.
both
Hell no!!! You're nothing more than fans.
