I rank 'the old Mongoose' as the #3 light heavyweight that ever lived and have him somewhere between 10 and 15 of pound for pound. Archie Moore has more K.O's. on record than any champion in any weight class of all time and was extremely crafty in the ring. Moore rarely gets the credit he deserves when people think of defensive boxers yet he used what boxing's current best defensive boxer today in the shoulder roll Here is my top light heavyweights of all time-
1) Gene Tunny
2) Ezzard Charles
3) Archie Moore
Top 3 light heavy.
He pretty much encouraged Marciano to hang up the gloves, and Ali considered Marciano the only guy who might have beaten him.
Any light heavyweight who can make Marciano take notice is a tough guy. He also fought so many fights that he had experience like no one else. He was tricky, cagey and tough. If he were alive today, he would take the world by surprise. People are bigger, but they are not tougher. These old guys were really strong and tough, as they had tougher lives.
Easily a Top 5 Light Heavyweight.
Top 5, and usually the number one of all time.
Considering his records for number of wins and knockouts and length of time as champion has to be a factor in considering his legacy.
