Boxing: What are the biggest differences between Stevenson and Kovalev?

I see 2...how about you guys?

Height: Kovalev { 6'0 }

Adonis stevenson [ 5'11 }

Reach: Kovalev 72 1/2

Adonis stevenson : 72

Chin: Kovalev

Adonis stevenson was ko'd before.

Speed: Adonis stevenson

Kovalev: less mobile

Power: I will say even but Kovalev might have a slight advantage.

Boxing ability: Adonis stevenson

Kovalev: has decent skills

Foot movement: Adonis stevenson

Kovalev: stationary at times

This will be a 50-50 fight if it ever happened.

Mine are simple. Adonis is a southpaw, Kovalev is orthodox. Simple but you can't get more opposite than that.

The other is style. Adonis is a left hand heavy, not overly active fighter. Kovalev is what I call the Edwin Valero type, ridiculous power but also throws in heavy volume.

Adonis looks for one big punch (although he's gotten better at mixing it up), whereas Kovalev is just going to throw and wait for the KO to come, which I really like.

BTW regarding Kovalev's chin, I think people are overrating it based on nothing.

Kovalev didn't get stopped by Darnell Boone, but he did get knocked DOWN by Boone and barely won a split decision.

Adonis got stopped, but it's not like Kovalev took everything Boone dished out and whooped him. Both got revenge easily obviously, but both struggled a lot in the first fights.

I know a dude from Russia, he's a big boxing fan (one of the few I could talk to without shaking my head). For some reason he has reservations when it comes to Kovalev's chin.

I don't know why, but when I said that to him his argument was simple; Kovalev has not been hit hard by anyone in the pro ranks. Sillakh hit him damn hard last night, but Adonis took hard shots too.

I think Kovalev has a good chin, but nobody should label it as "granite" until Kovalev takes a punch from a real fighter, not feather fisted Cleverly or a guy like Sillakh who has modest power at best.

The colour of their skin.

Nah seriously, Stevenson seems to have some skill, can find different angles and has more variety in his work.

Kovalev walks forward and punches, he's less patient and punches a little harder by the looks of things

Chin first of all. Kovalev has a granite chin while Stevenson was KO'd by Boone, who has 8 knockouts in 44 fights.

The other difference I'd say is Kovalev's movement. He has very good lateral movement and picks his shots well.

STICK AND MOVE) The first fight with Boone was Kovalev's 10 pro fight. He got knocked down but got straight back up, he wasn't out on his feet or anything. I don't believe that getting knocked down means a boxer doesn't have a granite chin. Hopkins has been down, Glen Johnson has been down, but both have granite chin's.

Stevenson is one dimensional he struggles with movers, he fights going back in straight lines, he only has one punch which is a straight left.

Kovalev is more skilled and is a two handed fighter with power in both hands also I wouldn't say Kovalev has a granite chin he was KOd in the Amateurs. If anything its decent.

Stevenson can fight well even if he backpedals.

Kovalev has a granite chin, Stevenson does not.

Both have good defense & offense. I feel that Kovalev defense is underrated

Kovalev is genetically stronger, tougher and smarter to begin with. He's an Eastern European and there ends any convo related to boxing. These dudes made professional boxing their own property, just like they did in amateur boxing many decades ago.
