Boxing: Maidana's money question?

Truth be told, professional boxing is and always was a business first and a sport a very distant second. A fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in today's business climate IS A CAREER for most fighters. I would venture to guess if you added up all the other fights in the average career of a Mayweather opponent, the purse for the Floyd fight would be more than the total of all the others combined. Floyd is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for 98% of the possible opponents he could choose to fight. Whom among us could make a million dollars or more for a night's work? The business climate is such that Floyd is the apex predator in boxing, he can pretty much get an opponent to fight him blind folded wearing handcuffs for the kind of money involved. Marvin Hagler said it best, "most people would cut off that little pinkie finger for a million dollars".

Will Maidana get more money for the rematch....if it happens? Ethically and Intellectuality he should, but when is the last time Ethics entered into a business negotiation, Does Maidana deserve more money for a rematch.....of course he does, his performance was about as close to a Mayweather loss as Floyd has ever been. But the bottom line is Floyd doesn't need to risk his unbeaten record against a guy who obviously has the tools to beat him when he can make 30 more million with a lesser fighter like Khan. IF Floyd decides to risk his legacy against say a Timothy Bradley or a Manny Pacquiao the odds are his take would push 50 million against arguably equal or even a lessor threat than Maidana proved to be. If you were negotiating with Mayweather on behalf of a Maidana rematch how would you ask for more money? On what grounds could you sway the Mayweather people into doubling or tripling your purse?

The next Mayweather opponent will take what he is offered, and it will be more than he has ever made in his like. If Floyd fought Ronda Rousey in an mma match it would generate more money than the top ten welterweights combined on a fight card, Floyd is that big in the business.

Still small as mayweather will make huge money anyway. He wont if he fights someone else bar pacman.

I think Floyd will offer Marcos 60/40 in the rematch. That's if Maidana agrees to wear balloons instead of boxing gloves.

The same amount, maybe a tiny bit more but still nothing significant.

Despite the fight, Chino still brings no real money to the table. Floyd is why PPV's sell, rarely his opponents make a difference.

Therefore I don't think Maidana can make a case for a bigger purse. At best he'll get two/three million or something in that range for a rematch, but at the end of the day he's no Cotto or Canelo.

I'd be very surpised if he made five million, let alone more.

Mayweather's minimum vs Maidana was 32 million. Maidana's was 1.5 million, which may have been his biggest payday. Considering his performance, how much will he get in a rematch?
