Boxing: If Floyd had been more active...?

If Floyd fought just twice a year from 2008-2012, he would have had 6 more bouts?

How many more fights would he have had?

Who would/ could he have fought?

What would his record be?

That's a stretch because there is a list of fighters whom Floyd supposedly avoided but, if you take a look at the timeline, half of them would not have been available. This question is more challenging than most might think.

.

The other thing that makes this a challenge is that Mayweather left Top Rank before 2008 and many of the fighters near his weight class fought there. The move to Showtime also makes some of the potential fights difficult.

.

Antonio Margarito often comes up but people forget that he was a welterweight champion when Mayweather was still at 135. By the time Floyd won a portion of the welterweight belt, Margarito had lost to Paul Williams. The best time for a fight with Margarito would have been when Mayweather fought De la Hoya. Who would YOU fight if you're Floyd? Oscar was half the danger and about 20 times the money. Which brings me to the first guy on my list.

.

Paul Williams: I can give you about a thousand reasons why this fight is not attractive. It's a shame because Williams would have presented problems for Mayweather. For the sake of your question, we could agree that Williams belongs on this list. However, I can see why that fight didn't happen and it had nothing to do with any fear on Floyd's part. Paul's a nice guy but he just wasn't very marketable.

.

Shane Mosley: This one is a little easier. I think, had Floyd not taken the time off, a fight with Mosley would have happened sooner and there might have been room for a rematch. I think Mayweather would still have won but it would have been more competitive, with Floyd winning the rematch easier.

.

Vernon Forrest: Here is another dangerous opponent. He beat the daylights out of Mosley and would have been a hand full for Mayweather. The difference is that Mayweather is MUCH smarter than Mosley ever was. Vernon would not have beaten Floyd as easily, if at all. Slight edge to Forrest for being a big welterweight at a time when Floyd was still eating to make 147. Another fight that I can understand not happening. Again, marketability.

.

Miguel Cotto: This fight should have happened sooner and would have if not for the lay-off. Still, I've never seen this fight any differently, except that Floyd wins easier than he did at 154. Miguel was never a speed demon at any weight.

.

Andre Berto: Had he not lost to Crappy Ortiz, this fight could have happened in 2011 or sooner. Berto held a piece of the title at the same time Mayweather did.

.

Mike Jones: People screamed his name for a good minute. Again, the problem is marketability. It's easy to yell "Floyd should fight This Guy, That Guy" but it's more difficult for broke people to understand why some of these fights don't happen. The KO loss to even more unknown Randall Bailey certainly didn't help Jones' case.

.

I could think of a few more fighters but the problem is that the issues with Top Rank and the fact that boxing is divided into two worlds, "The Haves and Have Nots", makes it difficult to find anyone Mayweather didn't fight for reasons other than the rival promoters or marking.

.

James Kirkland's name is whispered once in a while. But Ann Wolfe can hardly keep him out of trouble.

.

Canelo Alvarez happened just when it should have.

.

Alfredo Angulo: Next!

.

Kell Brook: See above.

.

I really don't think Mayweather missed much during the lay-off. Only Williams and Forrest stood a chance of beating him.

.

And forget this foolish idea of Floyd going to middleweight. He STILL walks around at the welterweight limit. Again, people forget he started at 130. Mayweather is NOT, and Never will be a middleweight.

.

I like to think he'd deteriorate faster. Obviously his defensive skills kept him from losing his game at a slower pace. When a fighter takes a lot of punishment over the time they lose it fast. Such as Erik Morales. He's starting to lose it now but I think if he fought more he would be slowing down faster

I thought his last fight would be his first loss, but still he came up strong in the later rounds. He can still box but if they allow floyd to fight younger boxers like canelo (very good record, under 25yrs), he could experience his first loss. So he really needs to fight PACQUIAO, I think they're both 39yrs. I guess. lol

Floyd retired and came back several times..

If he did this, if he did that... Means nothing...

It is, what it is..

Floyd will attempt to make 50 - 0 and then retire for good.

If he ever wanted to seriously put himself forward for discussion in the All time great boxers debate he would need to have fought and beaten 3 or 4 out of Paul Williams, Margarito and Pacquiao at welter, then Martinez at light-middle, and Golovkin at middleweight.

THAT would be a great resume.

If Floyd fought just twice a year from 2008-2012, he would have had 6 more bouts?

How many more fights would he have had?

Who would/ could he have fought?

What would his record be?
