Boxing: How do you interpret what Floyd is saying here?

The interview:

Translation- Al Haymon has complete control over my activities and Leonard Ellerbe is the well paid straw man put in place to make sure Haymon stays in control. My dad, Roger or myself have no authority or capacity to speak about the sport outside of the ring.

Everything else Floyd said was nothing more than the ramblings of a man attempting to cultivate a positive image without the public relation skills to do it. This isn't shocking to me, I have been getting thumbed down in this forum the last 5 years for stating that and much more.

I always go back to what the mother of Floyd's children said, "He doesn't put himself in a position where he can lose" People can take that with a grain of salt, and I don't think I can go as far as saying that Mayweather ducks fighters, but he has said repeatedly that he takes as much risk as makes sense financially and health wise. Ultimately it is a smart business plan and he has the talent to pull it off. However, there is a mythology to boxing where as one respondent said, "to be the best you have to fight the best" I would add, "you have to fight the best when they are the best" Floyd has fought very good fighters, even some who were at the top of their game, but I am not sure that he has fought the best when they were at their best.

When people were saying, "Floyd is scared of Canelo (and I think my statement is on Yahoo Answers somewhere) I said he would fight Canelo next because although it is a risk and Canelo is dangerous, he isn't quite ready for Mayweather. I don't think that there is anyone out there right now who can seriously challenge Mayweather, so he has to pick the person who appears to be the biggest risk so that he can pull people in to say, "I wonder if he can beat Floyd".

Floyd Mayweather puts the business of boxing over competition ,in other words ,he'll fight who ever will generate the most money.

When he says he "don't want to work hard" ,people will love to think that meant he was admitting to being a ducker ,he actually meant he wants to keep the hard work to a minimum and his idea of "hard work" is having tough opponents.

He's basically saying him and his team tries to balance the reward VS risk factor and meet somewhere in the middle ,that's what he meant when he said him and his team has to compromise.

Floyd Mayweather would rather fight Amir Khan and make 80 million fighting an easy fight against Amir Khan than to fight a tough fight with Keith Thurman or Kell Brook for half as much because Khan has the bigger name and is better known as well as being a lower risk and he doesn't have to work as hard to beat him as he would with Brook or Thurman.

Pacquiao on the other hand may be THE biggest risk but is also by far the highest reward so he would fight Manny Pacquiao if Bob Arum wasn't in the way like he was with Miguel Cotto.

Floyd is saying the truth and he has always said this same thing.

I remember in an interview some1 told him that Sugar Ray Robinson went 120 wins with only 1 loss which was avenged, Floyd said; ''I don't need to work that hard''.

Because of PPV, multiple belts and more weight divisions; fighters can make stardom & lots of money without having to bust their *** as much as back in the day. Look at Adrien Broner for example; with his resume & the opposition he has fought, in the 1940 he would have still been fighting for meals.

This is bad for boxing fans, who want to see the best duke it out, but this is good for the boxers who risk their life in the ring, and sadly to say but it's better this way.

With that said; most of these fighters won't will likely not be remembered in 40 years & most won't be ranked highly in ATG lists, which at the end of the day only serves for discussion. Sugar Ray Robinson was a monster but he lived his ''golden years'' in poverty back in the ghetto he came from. Because of modern fighters ''not working as hard'', they will likely be forgotten. I recall reading about a ''golden boy'' boxer in the 1920's, he was super famous in his day but he also picked easy fights & left belts vacant when need be. He made money but i don't even know his name now & i'm a huge fan of boxing history

So basically he wants to take the easy way out. He doesn't say it but he CLEARLY throws his legacy out of the window. All he wants is to make money at the same time avoid higher risk. Very smart move for a business man, but one thing he forgot is that this is still a sport. If you make moves like that, that only means your a joke.

Floyd doesn't give a **** about his legacy or making interesting fights. Like he said, it's a business & he's about to milk y'all for those 60 dollars as long as he can. "it's a business".... In other words, it's about selling an ILLUSION while keeping his number one marketing tool.. His undefeated record. Lol Floyd is such a joke.

At least, he's more humble these days. ?

What Floyd showed me in boxing is that to be a smart fighter and businessman. At the end of the day he is both... which is why he is great.

Those who are intelligent enough should know that Floyd Mayweather is the best.

I can't Sean. Our office doesn't provide us headsets or speakers. I was giving it a try to understand through the movement of Floyd's thick lips after the wiping, but dam...I got nothing. That fkng reflection on Floyd's forehead hurt my eyes, too.

Maybe later when I get home I'd watch this interview again.

Here's a quote from Iran Barkley during his pre-fight interview before his bout with James Toney:

"If you claim to be the best, then you fight the best. You don't duck and you don't pick and you don't choose, and if you get your butt kicked then you get your butt kicked."

Nuff said.

It means he is scared of getting hurt and it is a smart thing to avoid Pacquiao so he can enjoy his money and his 0-loss record. Doesn't matter what his fans and the boxing world thinks.

He's just saying that he will pick opponents that he knows will not give him a hard time. Just like his dad did when he saw Manny Paquiao , Sr. told him NOT to go there. Work smarter ,not get your *** beat doing it.
