BOXING: FLOYD - is he Un-Beatable?

Posted at: 2015-04-20
Q1. No. He won't even make the top 10 all time greatest, in my opinion. Being undefeated is surely admirable but it doesn't amount to greatness in itself. I mean, Rocky was 49-0, but Ali and Louis, who both lost some fights, are considered greater than him.

Q2. Sergio Martinez, Canelo Alvarez and, yes, a "focused" Manny Pacquiao.

Q2. Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran and Tommy Hearns.

Wow, clearly I am going to be the one to go against the grain today, but here goes.

Floyd is NOT unbeatable, although he does create a huge crevice you have to cross to in fact beat him. You have to beat his physical talents, his dedication, his knowledge...he is the absolute perfect storm of a competitor.

People who havent laced up cant tell the difference in technique or precision. There is an actual belief that Manny Pac is faster than Floyd, NOTHING COULD BE MORE WRONG.Pac got in a speed war with JMM, and he couldnt get out of the way of anything JMM thru at him in all their fights. Floyd showed JMM to be unbelievably slow by comparison. Manny wouldnt get a glove on him...and it would be a boring counter battle that Manny would lose hopelessly.

And there in lies the problem, how do you beat a defensive counter puncher? Your only option is to overwhelm him, and believe me its been tried. DLH, Cotto, Mosely all tried it with some degree of success...but then kicks in the endurance.

Historically I disagree with the guys who grew up on folks like Duran and Pryor and see them as legends. I dont think Duran would do good against Floyd AT ALL, too slow and skill wise wouldnt even be able to keep up.

Also, lets keep it relative. Floyd started at 130, hes at 147 now. Saying he is "ducking" at 160 Sergio Martinez is RETARDED, Martinez is too big. Really for that matter so is Canelo. If you are going to make stupid observations like that, why dont you go all the way and say Floyd is "ducking" David Haye as well.

Historically, I would give it to Hearns, Ray Leonard and Ray Robinson...although I dont believe Robinson would do as well with Floyd as Leonard would. Robinson was a hook machine, Floyd can pick those off without trying no matter how fast they come. Leonard was the speeding hellion with skill AND power...and Hearns was just a monster.

Right now, Floyds biggest enemy is time.

If he continues to cherry pick the right opponents, then yes. You need the eagle's claw to beat the snake's fist style of Mayweather. He knows who to avoid, and who he will have too much trouble against. Geurrero couldn't finish off a blind Berto.

Yes.... But that's because he won't fight strong champions no more. He's so contented picking on lesser foes just to keep his azz unbeatable.

Floyd's motto in his boxing career is "don't fight dangerous opponent". His plan is to leave boxing rich, healthy and undefeated.

1) no

2) only floyd knows who can beat him...so, to be precise it will be...boxers who he avoided in the past and running away from in the present...that's why he's been up and down weightclass and jumpin tv networks like HBO and showtime looking for weaker competition...

3) duran, leonard, hearns, hagler, willy pep....

Be serious, not even Tyson was un-beatable. Sugar Ray Leonard or even Manny Pacquiao would have beaten Mayweather, therefore Mayweather is nowhere close to the best of all times in his division.

Manny Pacquio would LITERALLY kill him if they fought. Mayweather is a pussy.
