Alternative to a "baby shower"?

There is nothing "tacky" or "rude" about it, I am doing the same type of thing, just a little get together at a restaurant, I did make a registry (more as a checklist for myself) but just something I can give to someone if they ask. You don't really have to call it anything, if you wanna hand out invites or whatever just say something like "come join us in celebration of a new family addition" or something along those lines...not all of us have people scrambling to throw together a big celebration for us pregnant women and if we wanna put on our own celebration it should never be looked at as rude or tacky! Every new life should be celebrated! Have fun at your get together :)

im going to be doing thesamething.all my close family and friends are cross country 1500 miles away. im just going to have something small. also looking for ideas for baby games. =] good luck

I've been reading online that it's considered 'tacky' and 'rude' to throw your own baby shower. I'm doing my own because my mother and mother in law are very busy and I don't really trust my best friend to know what to do for a baby shower. I'm only having about ten people.. Just a small gathering of close family and friends that can make it. (Most of my family and friends live out of state). I'm not really having it for the gifts, just to celebrate with people closest to my husband and I. I'm going to make finger foods and desserts, and plan a few games to play. My question is what is another word to use besides "baby shower"? Just a name for a small gathering to celebrate the baby.
